This unit covers using a range of hand tools for a variety of general engineering applications in both the woodworking and metal trade disciplines; these include chisels, files, gouges, hacksaws, hammers, mallets, punches, hand saws, scrapers, screwdrivers, spanners, wrenches and hand planes.
Applications may include hand tools used for adjusting, dismantling, assembling and finishing of items or components, and the finishing, cutting, scraping of metallic and non-metallic material to size and shape. This includes simple tapping and threading and routine maintenance of hand tools.
Skill practice exercises consist of short answer questions and manual hand tasks designed to develop the necessary skills.
A practice competency test is included at the end of the book to prepare the student.
